Auto racing is also known as a car or motor racing is a form of sport that involves racing of automobiles in a competition where the main goal of an individual or the driver is to set the fastest time in completing a race. Auto racing is a fabulous and amusing event. It is interesting and exciting whether you see it in person or even just on tv. It is held in a large theater in front of a thousand crowds. However, at the back of all entertainment and success lies a very risky and hazardous situation for every driver. That is why, racers are highly admired by a lot of fans because of their athletic capability to handle and face extreme circumstances in a way that can result in severe injury or worse, death. And racing teams are also worshiped because of the quality output they provide despite the said circumstances. There are numbers of racing teams all over the world. Teams differ also on the area or type of racing they are in and teams are also formed depending on the organization they are engaged.

There are four major areas of auto racing, the formula one, the NASCAR, IndyCar or CART and the Indy racing league circuit. In 1996, the IndyCar and Indy racing league were combined. There are also other types of racing which are endurance and sports car racing and drag racing. Each area of auto racing has also different teams. Below, the areas and types mentioned will be discussed and the best teams for each area will be provided also.

Formula One

Formula one racing is probably the most popular and the highest class of single-seat automobile racing in the world which is supported by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile or FIA. The term “formula” refers to a set of rules which the participants and the car must conform.

Formula One drivers are highly skilled and trained. Not only they are aware of the rules and procedures but they are also very aware of their physical health. Fitness and weight are extremely important for Formula One drivers. They are trained mentally and physically.

Not only diver but Formula One cars are designed specially and monitored sensitively to ensure the effectiveness and safety of it.

Formula One cars are quite different from the usual cars. A Formula One car is one with only one seat, an open cockpit, and wheel racing car. It has front wings and rear wings and an engine which is positioned just behind the driver of the car. This is intended to be used in competition at Formula One racing events. Formula One cars are considered to be the fastest road racing cars today. They race at the speed of up to 360 km/h with engines currently limited in performance to a maximum of 15,000 RPM.

Based on the team listing of formula one there are top eleven teams:

  1. Mercedes- with 2 championship titles and 53 podium finishes.
  2. Ferrari – with 16 championship titles and 523 podium finishes.
  3. Red bull racing – team entry was in 1997. Before entering racing, red bull has been sponsoring NASCAR for racing. Red bull has 4 championship titles and 85 podiums finishes.
  4. Williams – with 9 championship title and 240 podium finishes.
  5. Toro Rosso- has one victory
  6. Force India- completed 152 races and has set the fastest lap 3 times
  7. McLaren- one of the premiere team who entered racing in 1966, with 8 championship titles and 391 podiums finishes.
  8. Renault- with 2 championship titles and 52 podium finishes.
  9. Sauber– founded by Peter Sauber; has the been on the fastest lap 5 times
  10. Haas f1 team- a recent F1 team founded by the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ team co-founder, Gene Haas
  11. Manor racing– one of the three new members that joined NASCAR year 2010.

And based on the profile of the teams, the final top 100 teams were declared. Below are the top 10 teams for formula one racing:

Stock car or NASCAR

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing or NASCAR is one of the largest racing circuits all over the world. NASCAR is popular in the United States of America. They are also popular in stock car racing. Stock cars are ordinary cars that have been modified for car racing.

Traditionally, races can run around oval tracks which can measure up to 2.66 miles or 4.3 kilometers. The largest headquarters for the stock car racing in the world today is the NASCAR. Its Sprint Cup Series is one of the high-level professional series of stock car racing. High-level races usually range between 200 miles to 600 miles in length but NASCAR can reach up to a 200 mph in speed at speedway and superspeedway tracks, such as that of the Daytona Speedway. That was proved in 2007 by the American racecar driver named Russ Wicks who set the speed for all stock cars during the 2007 Dodge Charger. He was said to be the basis of NASCAR specifications of achieving the maximum speed of about 244.9 mph.

NASCAR produces highly skilled and trained drivers. They undergo a long and detailed training in order to produce a quality driver. In order to become a NASCAR driver, one must work his way up through passing smaller tracks first and prove his abilities, skills and pass given tests and exams.

NASCAR’s five of the best teams and full-time teams are Chip Ganassi Racing, Circle Sport-Leavine Family Racing, Germain Racing, Hendrick Motorsports, HScott Motorsports.

IndyCart or CART

IndyCart or Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) is a sport categorized in auto racing. The cart is usually and popularly known as open wheeled vehicles. Like that of formula one cars, IndyCar is also a single-seat car, with open cockpit and wheel. It’s basically similar to the cars used in Formula1. It was founded in North America in 1994. It is a premiere level of open wheel car racing that originated in America. IndyCar association is similar to Formula 1. The cars are open-wheeled like those in Formula One, but IndyCar’s racing cars have turbocharged V-6 engines and a semi-batwing shape.

Endurance Racing

Endurance racing is a form of racing which is meant to test the durability of equipment and endurance of participants. Endurance races can run for 620 miles or roughly 6 hours. Some races which are longer can run up to 1,600 kilometers, 12 hours, or even 24 hours. The sports car is usually a two-seated vehicle and has closed wheels.

Drag racing

Drag racing is a type of motor racing in which automobiles or motorcycles are specially prepared for the purpose of competition. There are two participants that will compete first. Before each race, drivers or participants are allowed to perform a burnout. A burnout is a process of practicing or testing the vehicle’s wheels to spin to heat it up that causes the tires to produce smoke that causes from friction. Heating of tires can help drivers to improve traction. The races are done mostly two at a time. The race follows a short, straight course from a standing start over with a measured distance, most commonly one-fourth mile or 1,320 ft or 402 meters, with a shorter .1875 miles or 10 feet or 1,000 ft. Drag racing can be a street racing or a regulated motorsport. However, street racing is mostly illegal.

Car racing is one of the most adventurous sports that both men and women enjoy. But everyone is also aware how risky this activity is. That is why in all types of car racing, may it be Formula One, NASCAR, etc, participants and the person engaged in this type of sport are very cautious to safety. Participants follow proper suit. Proper suit for participants or drivers includes:

  1. HANS device– a HANS device refers to Head and neck support device. It is used to help drivers to reduce head or neck injuries in case of a crash.
  2. Racing helmets– everyone is for sure familiar with a helmet but car racing helmets are greater head protection.
